Amelia Kay Ortiz

Amelia represents injured victims and their families in personal injury and premises liability cases.

Amelia earned both her undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Georgia, making her a proud “Double Dawg.” During law school, Amelia was heavily involved in moot court and mock trial, serving as the Law School’s Moot Court Board Executive Chair. After winning UGA Law’s first-year Closing Argument Competition, Amelia won Outstanding Advocate in the National All-Star Mock Trial Challenge; won the National South Texas Mock Trial Challenge; and was a finalist in the National Mockingbird Mock Trial Competition. Amelia also served as a legal extern for the Hon. William M. Ray on the Northern District Court of Georgia, which gave Amelia invaluable insight into the inner workings of a federal trial-level court. 

Before law school, Amelia was an elementary school teacher in Title I public schools in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. This experience allowed Amelia to fine-tune her ability to connect with others and reinforced her desire to serve the most vulnerable parts of her community.

For the last few years, Amelia has worked as a trial attorney at a national civil defense firm, defending individuals and insurance companies in personal injury cases. Now, Amelia looks forward to using her knowledge of defense tactics to help injured individuals and their families obtain justice in their civil cases.

In her spare time, Amelia is actively involved in the legal community. Amelia coaches law school mock trial and has served as a faculty member in residence for the State Bar of Georgia’s High School Mock Trial Law Academy. Amelia also serves as a board member for UGA Law School’s Young Alumni/Alumnae Council.

Amelia lives in Decatur with her husband, Will, their son, Danny, and their labradoodle, Rosie.
